Description

This week we are joined by a true grassroots legend Tyrus Gordon-Young.

If you’ve been around South East London football, you know the name. Tyrus is a seasoned veteran who’s left his mark at clubs like Erith Town, Thamesmead Town, Cray Wanderers, VCD  just to name a few.

His name carries weight not just for his talent, but for the way he’s shown up for the game and the community, time and time again.

In the first 45 minutes, we dive into his football journey the highs, the setbacks, the rivalries, and the love he still has for the game after all these years. Tyrus shares what the grassroots scene has taught him about discipline, loyalty, and the joy of simply playing for the badge.

In the second 45, we go deeper. Tyrus opens up about the challenges he’s faced off the pitch from personal losses to mental health struggles, and how football became a sanctuary during tough times. He reflects on how he’s dealt with grief, pressure, and the unspoken emotional weight that often comes with being a “strong one” in your circle.

We also speak about his memories of Derek, the impact that loss had on him, and how he continues to honour those who are no longer with us.

This episode is full of wisdom, laughter, and real talk from a man who’s lived it.

The set peace podcast is about more than football it’s about the people behind it.

Every 2 weeks, we sit down with guests across the game from pros to physios, coaches to players, these are the conversations we all need to hear, in football and in life.

With 45 minutes talking football and 45 minutes on mental health and well-being these conversations are for everyone whether you’re in football or not.
