Preptober is here! I walk through NaNoWriMo's six prep steps and share how I use them myself: developing your high-level concept, creating complex and believable characters, building a plot or outline, building a strong world, organizing your life around your writing goals, and finding time to write.
I also talk about being a hybrid plotter, visualizing your next scene, the Binaural app I play under my music, and why every word counts, even if you only get 50 words in a couple of minutes.
Recorded in October 2021. NaNoWriMo closed in 2025, so the website resources and buddy search I mention are gone, and the Plan Your Series challenge and free course I mention near the end are no longer running. The prep steps still work for any writing sprint.
