St Joseph the Worker
Antiphons and Readings on p 1612 of the Daily Missal
First Reading: Colossians 3:14-15.17.23-24
Brothers and sisters:
Over all these put on love,
which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
to which indeed you were called in the one body.
And be thankful.
And whatever you do, in word or deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Whatever your task, work heartily,
as serving the Lord and not people,
knowing that from the Lord
you will receive the inheritance as your reward;
you are serving the Lord Christ.
Responsorial psalm: Ps 90:2.3-4.12-13.14.16(R.17c)
R./ Give success to the work of our hands, O Lord.
Before the mountains were born,
or the earth or the world were brought forth,
you are God, from age to age.
You turn man back to dust,
and say, “Return, O children of men.”
To your eyes a thousand years
are like yesterday, come and gone,
or like a watch in the night.
Then teach us to number our days,
that we may gain wisdom of heart.
Turn back, O Lord! How long?
Show pity to your servants.
At dawn, fill us with your merciful love;
we shall exult and rejoice all our days.
Let your deed be seen by your servants,
and your glorious power by their children.
R./ Give success to the work of our hands, O Lord.
Gospel: Matthew 13:54-58
At that time:
Coming to his own country, Jesus taught them in their synagogue,
so that they were astonished, and said,
“Where did this man get this wisdom
and these mighty works?
Is not this the carpenter’s son?
Is not his mother called Mary?
And are not his brothers
James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
And are not all his sisters with us?
Where then did this man get all this?”
And they took offense at him.
But Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honour
except in his own country and in his own house.”
And he did not do many mighty works there,
because of their unbelief.
