Sunday in Twenty-Sixth Week in Ordinary Time – Cycle C
Antiphons on p. 1302 and Readings on p. 1306 of the Daily Missal and on p. 973 of the Sunday Missal.

First Reading: Amos 6:1a-.4-7

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 146:6c-7.8-9a.9bc-10 (R. 1b)

R/. My soul give praise to the Lord.

It is the Lord who preserves fidelity forever,
who does justice to those who are oppressed.
It is he who gives bread to the hungry,
the Lord who sets prisoners free,

It is the Lord who opens the eyes of the blind,
the Lord who raises up those who are bowed down.
It is the Lord who loves the just,
the Lord who protects the stranger

The Lord upholds the orphan and the widow,
but thwarts the path of the wicked.
The Lord will reign forever,
the God of Sion from age to age.

R/. My soul give praise to the Lord.

Second Reading: 1 Timothy 6:11-16

O Man of God,
aim at righteousness, godliness,
faith, love, steadfastness and gentleness.
Fight the good fight of the faith;
take hold of the eternal life
to which you were called when you made the good confession
in the presence of many witnesses.
In the presence of God who gives life to all things,
and of Christ Jesus who
in his testimony before Pontius Pilate
made the good confession,
I charge you to keep the commandment unstained
and free from reproach
until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ;
and this will be made manifest at the proper time
by the blessed and only Sovereign,
the King of kings and Lord of lords,
who alone has immortality
and dwells in unapproachable light,
whom no man has ever seen or can see.
To him be honour and eternal dominion. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 16:19-31

At that time:
Jesus said to the Pharisees,
“There was a rich man,
who was clothed in purple and fine linen
and who feasted sumptuously every day.
And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus,
full of sores,
who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
The poor man died
and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom.
The rich man also died and was buried;
and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes,
and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he called out,
‘Father Abraham, have mercy upon me,
and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water
and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.’

But Abraham said,
‘Son, remember that you in your lifetime
received your good things,
and Lazarus in like manner evil things;
but now he is comforted here,
and you are in anguish.
And besides all this,
between us and you, a great chasm has been fixed,
in order that those who would pass from here to you
may not be able,
and none may cross from there to us.’

And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father,
to send him to my father’s house,
for I have five brothers,
so that he may warn them,
lest they also come into this place of torment.’
But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets;
let them hear them.’

And he said, ‘No, father Abraham;
but if someone goes to them from the dead,
they will repent.’

He said to him,
‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be convinced
if someone should rise from the dead.’”
