To you I call; for you will surely heed me, O God; turn your ear to me; hear my words. Guard me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
First Reading: Ephesians 3:14-21
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.
Brothers and sisters:
I bow my knees before the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
that according to the riches of his glory
he may grant you to be strengthened with might
through his Spirit in the inner man,
and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may have power to comprehend with all the saints
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge,
that you may be filled with all the fulness of God.
Now to him who by the power at work within us
is able to do far more abundantly
than all that we ask or think,
to him be glory in the Church
and in Christ Jesus to all generations,
forever and ever.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
At that time:
Jesus said to his disciples,
“I came to cast fire upon the earth,
and would that it were already kindled!
I have a baptism to be baptized with;
and how I am constrained until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division;
for henceforth in one house there will be five divided,
three against two and two against three;
they will be divided,
father against son and son against father,
mother against daughter and daughter against her mother,
mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
