An alternative to traditional prosecution that allows eligible defendants to avoid a criminal conviction by completing a structured program. Typically offered to first-time or low-risk offenders, the program may include requirements such as counseling, community service, restitution, drug testing, or educational classes.
If the participant successfully completes all conditions within the specified time, the charges are usually dismissed.
Failure to comply can result in the case being returned to court for prosecution.
