We are in chapter twenty-four of Exodus with our word for today which is actually a phrase. ק֤וֹל אֶחָד֙ one voice, in unison. It is used 2 times in the Old Testament. Let’s look at both of these starting with our chapter for today. Exodus 24:3 Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the rules. And all the people answered with ק֤וֹל אֶחָד֙ one voice and said, “All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.” There is nothing better than when God’s people are unified in doing his will. Another great thing just as amazing is when God’s people worship together which is how our phrase is used the other time in the Old Testament. 2 Chronicles 5:12-14 All the Levites who were musicians—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets. The trumpeters and musicians joined קוֹל־אֶחָ֗ד in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God. We will find that God’s people don’t have the best track record of doing God’s will even when we promise to do so. So when we see it we need to celebrate it, be grateful for it and help support it. I’ll close with this great encouragement from the New Testament with the concept that our phrase for today conveys. Romans 15:5-6 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
