This week Sarah is joined by Melody Di Bona from Shunya Healing to explore the subconscious mind (sometimes called the unconscious mind) and how it quietly shapes what we notice, how we react and the stories we tell ourselves.

Melody spent fifteen years in scientific research, including a PhD in physics and a postdoc in cancer research, before leaving academia for a very different path. She explains why she thinks of the subconscious as a four-year-old child who just wants to keep us safe, how it acts as a filter for reality, and how working with it through NLP and timeline therapy helped her release a long-standing automatic pattern linked to her past experience of bulimia. Along the way they chat about the mind-body connection, listening to what our bodies are telling us, the science that's slowly catching up, and why the way we talk to ourselves matters so much.

In this episode you'll hear about:

● What the subconscious mind is, and why Melody prefers that word to "unconscious"

● How the subconscious filters reality, and why it can misunderstand what we ask of it

● Why we seem to see more of whatever we focus on, from red cars to beliefs about ourselves

● Melody's story of releasing an automatic behaviour she couldn't control, and what finally changed it

● NLP and timeline therapy: what they are and how they work with memories and limiting beliefs

● Leaving a successful career in science to follow her intuition, and the fear of judgment that came with it

● The mind-body connection, and Melody's own experience of her health improving when she changed how she lived and worked

● Where science and spirituality are starting to meet

● Why it pays to listen to your body, and the surprising ways we send signals to each other

● Simple ways to start listening to your subconscious every day, from posture to self-talk
