In this podcast episode, I describe how a new tradition is created to strengthen the assertiveness of a people in the struggles for confessional predominance. A son may see his mission in life as manipulating his biological father, leading him astray and systematically restricting his (mental) freedom, his thinking and his beliefs. In the latter case, the son usually belongs at heart to a different people than his biological father. He is therefore not honoring his biological father with his life, but a church father. In doing so, he wants to gain the favor of his people, their clergy and nobility, to whom he belongs at heart.
