Testosterone converts to estrogen and too much estrogen in men can cause extreme emotions, bloat and water retention, nipple tenderness, and negative sexual side-effects. Low estrogen can also cause issues with sexual function.
Every patient is different and getting the patient to their optimal level is our goal. If your levels are not at their appropriate level for each patient, a blocker can be added in a pellet or compounded with the injections.
Testosterone not only can convert to estrogen but can also convert to DHT which is stronger. Like estrogen, we want some of it but too much of it can cause acne, hair loss or gain, urinary tract changes, and other negative side effects. There are a lot of options for treatment options to keep this from happening.
Lastly, an increase in red blood cells can come from a spike in testosterone. It is monitored closely in our office.
