Description

Marc, Laura, and the team open the year with a clear roadmap for families and a heart check we all need. We lay out the big dates first: Vacation Bible School in early June, Missions Madness at Hernando Baptist on February 21 for grades one through six (ten dollars, sign up by February 4), the preteen retreat on February 27–28, and children’s camp at The Grove from July 2–4 with a noon return on the Fourth so everyone can make fireworks. Simple details, short drives, and familiar spaces make it easier for kids to show up and thrive.

From there we loosen up with stories and games. Laura takes us up Red Mountain to Bluff Park, where basements are storm shelters and teenage kingdoms. We swap favorite group games and debut Risky Pick, a high-stakes board of hidden tiles, point swings, and dreaded Zonk moments that can erase everything in one flip. Between laughs, we talk about why play matters in ministry: shared fun builds friendships, lowers walls, and makes room for faith to take root.

Then comes the quiet turn. Laura revisits Psalm 46:10 and offers a sharper translation: be still as cease and let go. It’s a call to stop striving, release control, and acknowledge God’s rule in the middle of chaos. We explore practical ways to practice stillness and humility—short pauses without noise, simple prayers, and a posture of “I got nothing” that becomes worship. Even as we joke about robot vacuums and laundry-folding tech, we admit that the peace our souls crave won’t come from gadgets. It comes from surrender.
