Acts 11 records the first time followers of Jesus were called "Christians" – a term used by non-believers to describe this new movement that wasn't defined by ethnicity or nationality but by faith in Jesus Christ.
• The Antioch church functioned as "an embassy of the kingdom of God" demonstrating what Christ's kingdom will ultimately look like
• Early Christians proclaimed Jesus to everyone they encountered, not just fellow Jews
• God used persecution to spread the gospel beyond Jerusalem to the broader world
• Barnabas and Saul taught new believers for a full year, discipling them to live faithfully in a pluralistic culture
• The church responded proactively to predicted needs, collecting funds for famine relief
• Modern Christians in America are a minority (less than 25% in Mississippi claim any religious affiliation)
• Remaining faithful requires proclaiming the gospel, teaching others, and helping those in need
• Faithful Christian living doesn't depend on our ability but on our dependence on God
