The kingdom of God advances as ordinary believers serve and address needs within the church community. Through examining Acts 6:1-7, we discover how seven ordinary men were chosen to solve the crisis of neglected Hellenistic widows and advance God's work.
• The kingdom of God refers to God's reign in believers' lives, not a geographical or political entity
• Advancing the kingdom means sharing the gospel and growing in submission to God's rule
• The early church faced a crisis when Greek-speaking widows were overlooked in food distribution
• The apostles maintained focus on prayer and Word ministry while empowering others to serve
• Key qualities for kingdom servants: good reputation, fullness of the Spirit, and wisdom
• Good reputation means running to God in both success and failure
• Being full of the Spirit means responding appropriately to God's guidance
• Wisdom means applying biblical knowledge to everyday situations
• Stephen and Philip began by serving tables but went on to powerful gospel ministry
• God often calls us to service by making us passionate about specific needs
• Kingdom advancement requires dependence on God more than ability or availability
