To finish the series on the Kingdom of Heaven parables, Steven Winn points out that Jesus could not begin his ministry until he had overcome the Three Temptations. These deep desires - wanting to be loved and respected, wanting power or control, and wanting to be safe and secure - are the operating principles of our mind and ego. They are part of us, and not our enemy. Using willpower to change them is pointless; only love will draw them in and tame them so we can fulfill our Divine Plan.
