You might be familiar with the term ‘AI slop’. But a new study from SEO firm Graphite found that just over half (52%) of new online articles are now generated by AI, based on the analysis of 65,000 URLs published between January 2020 and May 2025.

This, as you will appreciate, spiked after ChatGPT launched in November 2022, but since May 2024, growth has plateaued and human and AI-generated content now consistently run neck-and-neck in monthly output.
