Mentorship, Fragmentation, and Building Real Training in the Mortgage Industry

In this Growth Notes episode, Frazier reflects on a mortgage-industry post that sparked many conflicting comments over a simple process question, highlighting how fragmented training, mentorship, and leadership are across the industry. He explains that new loan officers often face a stacked deck without a strong mentor because success can depend on the luck of who they learn from, and outdated systems and regurgitated conference advice can keep veterans stuck in old dogma. Frazier notes that some newer loan officers (roughly 24–36 months in) are finding faster success by applying principles from other sales industries and not being defined by "this is how it’s done" thinking. He closes with a message to leaders who recruit and hire: avoid lazy, minimal onboarding, and instead build real training and development to put people in the best position to succeed rather than relying on "hope and prayer."
