In our culture, screens are everywhere and OVERSTIMULATION has become commonplace. It’s often very easy to recognize overstimulation in kids, but what about ourselves? Most adults are overstimulated as well, whether we know it or not.
We're bombarded with daily stimulation through our screens, media, and messaging, so we need to be aware of the effects of overstimulation. Beyond awareness, we should actively take steps to “reset” our nervous systems.
In this episode, we talk about the physiological effects of chronic overstimulation of the sympathetic nervous system including anxiety, depression, inflammation, chronic stress, burnout, inability to concentrate, sleep problems…and more. Finally, we also talk about simple ways to step back from the “noise” and open up to the idea of having more “blank space” in our daily lives.
