Bethanie Spangenberg, a former VA C&P examiner turned VA agent, shares her journey of leaving the VA to help veterans obtain quality medical opinions through her company Valor for Vets. She explains how her unique perspective helps veterans navigate the complex VA claims system with expert medical evidence that stands up to scrutiny.
• Bethanie became a VA agent in 2017 to better understand the claims process and help veterans who were "getting shafted" by the system
• Veterans select appropriate specialists through Valor for Vets based on their conditions, including podiatrists, audiologists, mental health providers, and general medical practitioners
• Unlike VA contractors who only examine conditions listed on the 2507 form, Valor for Vets providers identify secondary conditions related to primary disabilities
• Each medical opinion undergoes rigorous quality control with multiple expert reviews before submission
• The PCAFC (caregiver program) presents challenging issues that require specialized advocacy
• Current VA rating schedules don't accurately reflect the true clinical burden of many conditions, particularly joint problems
• Veterans must have a proper diagnosis before seeking a medical opinion - "having that diagnosis is at the top of our checklist"
• VA hospital closures are forcing veterans to travel longer distances for specialty care
