Sit back and enjoy an exclusive interview with one of Mendocino County's own native sons, Carter Lane. As the front man, lead vocalist, lyricist and co-songwriter, Carter has traveled the world with his band of brothers known as one of Nor-Cal's most popular rock-reggae bands Top Shelf. Taking vocal lessons at age 8, he aspired to one day be in the spotlight and knew early on that he was destined for the stage. Forming the band with his childhood friend and drummer Drew Nicole, Top Shelf enjoyed a run of success gaining a reputation for their high energy, live performances. With bass player Chad Goodin and lead guitarist Korey Ross rounding off the four piece band, Top Shelf hit the road and toured extensively, sharing the stage with bands like Dirty Heads, The Expendables, Rebelution, Mystic Roots, Pepper, The Original Wailers and opening for reggae royalty like Steel Pulse and Colley Buddz. Besides performing with his band, Carter is the coordinator for the acclaimed Sundays in the Park Concert Series started in 1992 by Spencer Brewer in Carter's hometown of Ukiah. His Like or Not Podcast started in 2020 during Covid with his drummer Drew Nicole, has gained a reputation for being candid and uncensored, offering a no holds barred view on politics, current events and world and local affairs. Carter and Drew's humor and banter offer the listener an entertaining and unique perspective. Carter is a father, an artist, community organizer and role model for those in the recovery community as he will be celebrating 20 years sobriety this summer.
