In the midst of circumstances that were overwhelming and totally out of their control, they expressed dependency on God through prayer and were filled with the Spirit. Acts 4:23-31 is a window into the lives of the early church, showing us what it looks like to live under the influence of the Spirit. Showing us that a Spirit-empowered community is a praying community. What if prayer becomes our response to the conflict, adversity and circumstances we face? What if God’s answer is to fill us with the Spirit? That is exactly what we’re invited into–life under the influence of the Spirit through habits of expressed dependency.
