Peter spends a miserable night recovering from his ordeal under a bramble-bush. While the sunrise offers a brief moment of cheer, his injuries and the unfamiliar surroundings intensify his homesickness for the Green Meadows and his beloved Old Briar-patch. 

He considers returning home, but the thought of the familiar inhabitants and the comforting presence of Mr. Sun, even from afar, provides a different, albeit still solitary, kind of comfort.
