From champion schoolgirl swimmer to a life-changing accident, Helena went on to achieve world records and international medals in disabled swimming, later receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to swimming. She also had the honour of presenting medals at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.
But Helena’s story goes far beyond sport. She became a primary school teacher, award-winning visual artist, singer and live performer, as well as an advocate for disability and mental health.
In 2026, her extraordinary contribution was recognised with induction into the Central Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.
