1 Nephi 4:1 - "And it came to pass that I spake unto my brethren, saying: Let us go up again unto Jerusalem, and let us be faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; for behold he is mightier than all the earth, then why not mightier than Laban and his fifty, yea, or even than his tens of thousands?"
Elder David A Bednar - “Nephi had to go three times to get the brass plates. Was something wrong with him the first time? I do not think so. Was something wrong with him the second time? I do not think so. I believe the first two episodes were necessary for Nephi to go the third time, submissive and willing to do whatever the Lord instructed him to do in order to get the brass plates. He was not wrong the first two times; He was being tutored on how to do it right the third time.”
