If you've spent more than five minutes in any area of the Essential's work world, you've seen this. What is Normalization of Deviance? It is "the dangerous organizational process where departing from established safety rules or standards becomes accepted practice over time, often because no immediate negative consequences occur." In other words, "but did you (or anyone) die?" As of today we're seeing massive walk-outs in the nursing, firefighting, and EMS world, all because standards are being lowered and called acceptable, regardless of safety, simply because there's no catastrophe. Are you kidding me? No, no we're not. This is the new thing and 2026 is your year to stand up for yourself, your team and your community.
