Episode 10: Solo Ep. Reflecting on the Journey

How often do you give yourself credit for the progress you’ve made, both big and small?

This solo episode is all about taking time to reflect on your personal journey—how you’ve arrived at where you are today, and why it’s important to pause and appreciate your progress.

The Power of Reflection. Many of us rarely take a moment to look back on our    achievements and experiences, regardless of gender. The episode encourages listeners to reflect on the past five years, recognising how much can change and how far you’ve come.

Career Transitions: I share a personal story of moving from 14 years as a primary school teacher (including 8 years of relief work) to starting a celebrant business. This transition involved taking a leap of faith, studying for a new qualification, and building a reputation from scratch.

Facing Challenges: In 2020, a new role as a disability employment officer brought unexpected challenges, working with clients facing complex barriers to employment. The experience highlighted the realities of supporting people with disabilities and the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the workplace.

Tough Work Environments: I discuss a difficult period working in business development, facing verbal abuse and a toxic environment. This experience ultimately led to a decision to resign and prioritise wellbeing.

Resilience and Growth: Each career move—whether positive or challenging—taught valuable lessons in resilience, self-worth, and standing up for oneself. The journey also included further study and a new role teaching adults in remote communities, which became a source of joy and fulfilment.

Encouragement to Listeners: Take time to reflect on your own journey, celebrate your achievements, and consider how you’ve grown. Reflection isn’t just about the good times—it’s also about recognising areas for self-improvement and striving to be a better person.

Memorable Quote: “Growth isn’t always comfortable, but every challenge is a chance to become stronger.”

Tune in for an honest, inspiring reflection on personal growth, career changes, and the importance of celebrating your own journey. If you take away anything from this episode, I hope it’s to make time to reflect on your own journey. You might just come away surprising yourself on just how far you’ve come.
