This reflection contrasts happiness—which depends on circumstances—with the deeper joy Advent offers, a joy rooted in God’s nearness. Through Zephaniah, God called His people to rejoice even in hardship because He was with them. Paul, writing from prison, echoed the same truth, and even John the Baptist proclaimed hope with joy because he knew the Messiah was near. Advent joy doesn’t deny reality; it anchors us in a greater one. God is with us, God delights in us, and God is coming again—reason enough to rejoice, even while we wait.
