This sermon warns that many churches and Christians only pretend to be religious on the outside but don't truly believe in their hearts. The preacher compares modern churches to the church in Sardis from the Bible, saying most people just go through the motions of religion while only a few truly follow God with pure hearts. Those few who stay faithful and don't get caught up in fake religion will be rewarded by God, but those who only pretend to be Christians will face punishment.
A sermon delivered by Charles Spurgeon on February 24, 1856.
