Do you believe in the idea of ‘the one’ – the belief in the existence of a soul mate. To find the perfect mate as predetermined by fate. Some religions believe that spirits are split into two and you must spend you whole life looking for the other half. Overall, it’s a feeling of ‘it’s meant to be’. If you're dating it means you keep looking until you find him or her-not sure I would have the patience to carry on…

The cynics amongst us point to the fact that with 8 billion on the planet the chance of finding the one is impossible. It's far more likely that there are many people you could fall in love with, if you set about to meet lots of people- it’s a numbers game. It probably also means expectations are more realistic, rather than searching for years for Miss or Mr Perfect. It might also prevent ‘the grass is greener syndrome’. Maybe love can grow on you, rather than a long search for the ideal partner. Maybe you can turn someone into your soulmate ?

Fifty years ago, in the UK we met our partners through friends and social circles, and in the local community and even at work. This changed in 2001 with the first dating website ( Match.com).We now have tinder, hinge, and Bumble etc. You can even meet someone via a quick swipe ! There are now 2500 dating agencies/websites in the UK

There are 9m men over 16, unmarried ( and not cohabitating) in the UK and 8m women. In the ‘man shortage belt’ i.e. Russia, there are 86 men for every 100 single women !. Only 3% of couples meet via a blind date ( i.e. they have not met each other previously) .64% of all new couples in the UK now meet on- line. Not sure if that is good or bad ?

This is a song about a couple who meet via blind date. I met my partner ( and the previous one) on a blind date. Ive also personally setup a couple of friends to meet someone new on a blind date and so far, all is going well, I have also written at least three songs about these hook ups.

This is another country song with en edge. It tries to capture the sheer sense of fear and danger, meeting someone completely blind and the elation if it works out. I also think it's probably the most romantic way of find the ‘one’ – not sure swiping is !

The lady in the song sings with a degree of pessimism,  ‘My best friend Luke called. He's found a guy that’s right ‘for me. Hope to God he’s not wrong. See no chance, of this working’. The scene is set at the smokehouse on the turnpike interstate’ ( i.e. a neutral, public venue.) They are probably in Texas , which has more BBG places than anywhere else in the USA.

Using an old photograph ( or catfishing) is something our lady is looking out for. but is pleasantly surprised by the ‘guy in the baseball cap. Tall and dark, in tight blue jeans’ She sings The room was a blur, I can't remember. He kept his cool, just blew me away’

Then suddenly without warning she comments, ‘I’m now his wife, with a ring on my finger. Am I living my dream, you bet .It was a love match, somehow’

The story and the song end well, ‘My best friend Luke called. Told him, I’m now that boy's loving wife. Told him, had a great date, now I got a great life’ .Now ain’ t that nice and a feather in the cap for the blind date methodology !
