Is God responsible for the death of loved ones and other awful events?
Some believe God is all powerful and all knowing, therefore everything is part of his divine plan. Maybe God has greater vision and sees these events in a different way to us. Does he see all the complexities and then uses suffering for the greater good of mankind. Death is not seen as random but part of the plan for eternal life.
Others do not hold God responsible. They believe he created humans with free will, which means both good and bad things will happen. Illness or death or accidents are seen as part of the natural world that operates to its own laws. God is not there to micro manage but to comfort those who do suffer. Hi gives us hope to get through the bad times.
Atheists of course think that a death in the family is either just random, caused by natural or human action. The universe is indifferent to these moments, with humans bound to look for a reason ( i.e. God) to make sense of everything.
About 1% of young people die before the age of 21.The most common causes of death are birth defects, injuries, suicide and cancer. Boys (1.1%) are far more likely to die then girls(0.7%) due largely to being bigger risk takers.
The experts say that to enable you to live with the death of a loved on you have to accept the pain, find people to be with, get professional help, honour their lost life and finally be gentle on yourself. And finally question why it happened ,for what purpose ?
This is a song about a man who loses his daughter and then very soon afterwards his wife. I don’t want to say anything more about this for personal reasons.
I wrote the song from what I think would be my view of the events if it was my family. I certainly don’t think I would be writing a song about it !
I would never get over it and I don’t think I would ever be understanding and forgiving to anybody or anything or any God. I might even look for revenge, sorry but that’s how I feel.
This is the darkest song I have written and one that left me in tears. In the blues systyle it starts ‘Which God is responsible, for this. We all feel so utterly, helpless. Does he have a deal, with a prince?’ – the prince of course is the prince of darkness or the devil.
The father and husband then sings , ‘Bloodstains, a daughter .Plunging, to new lows. A life changing tragedy. We just froze 'He knows there is no where to go to get comfort, shouting, ‘Thousands of words, but no solace. Hundreds of countries, but no refuge’.- that’s how I would definitely feel. He goes on to sing , ‘Overtaken by events .Don’t you dare pity me .I just cried, with friends .What do you want, from me’. I think the last line is how I would see my relationship with God’ – asking exactly what do you want from me !.In a dark moment he sings,’ My time must be coming soon. Nothing left, nothing left to dream’ – he feels there’s is nothing to continue living for and who can blame him
He then starts to get angry , ‘Where have these Gods, gone now. We need to understand, somehow’ and then the heart-breaking line ‘It could be worse, ….no it can’t be. The song ends with ‘Earth crushing, sadness, remains’ . This is a song for all those that have lost a loved one. I can only imagine your pain, in my writer's mind.
