Description

This is yet another happy song for all you that switch off sad songs. This is a nod to Romcom films, you know when we all gooey and shed a little tear. Everybody likes a love story with a big dose of humour. When Harry met Sally, Pretty Woman, Sleepless in Seattle have gotta be my favourites as well as Notting Hill.

The first meeting, the chemistry, the funny conversations, the obstacles to overcome and of course the happy ending. They are all part of this film genre and part of my song- I hope. My version of events is about two real people who met after a log time single – and I mean a long time. It’s also about two people who met in their mid 60’s – gulp.

In 2019, 18,000 couples married aged 60 and over in the UK.90% of these people had married previously. Over 1.3 m single people over 60 are dating via dating websites, with a 25% increase over recent years. Co habitation at this age is also on the rise. Add this all together and its about 80,00 couples living together for the first time in the UK. All this is down to silver splitters, increased health and longevity and the good old dating Apps !

People ‘living apart together’ i.e. (in two houses) in the UK amounts to 2m couples – housing cris, what crisis I hear you say ? Marriages at aged 60 usually last 15 years i.e. for most of the rest of their lives, longer than the average 13 years for all couples at any age.

The message is, its never too late, lets go baby ! This is the basis of my song

My song starts with Romcom humour with the lines ,’ A romance, going one way

Could it be a film, one day. How old is too old. Have the angels, been told. God laughs, if you make plans .A secret call, how it all began ‘

Well guess what, I made the call to get one person call the over, with a severe telling off ( but I don’t want paying !). Albeit my partner was the real driving force, but this doesn’t quite fit with my podcast !

The logic to the new liaison is spelt out in the song, ‘Need to accept the challenge. Be brave, take the plunge .Two lovers, two swansongs. Into the unknown, it’s not wrong

No need to be afraid, of failure. Enjoy life, with a new, stranger ’

The song has a dreamlike quality and the lyric video shows two people on the beach in beige and denim , looking cool and full of joy, playing the fool.

I love the chorus,  ’A romance, going one way. Could it be a film, one day? ‘ ( see I managed to get Romcom into the song !).The male in this story did rather a good job , ‘He made it seem, so effortless. Made her feel special, I guess’ then the advice is ‘Go fast as you can, get busy .Dating late in life, can be tricky. Hit the point of no return. Soulmates, a burst of sunshine’ So how did it all work out ?. They still live in separate houses and not yet married ( I've already got a new suit !). But four years later they are together and like the song says ‘Now they’re off to the, USA .Two people, on life’s highway’-they have now had many trips all over the place – what joy ! Companions for the journey home. A romantic song writer has done his job- with waves crashing in the background in the video- cliché or what ?
