The Stonefellows receive horses and begin their journey southward. Ivaeland has trouble with his steed and they reach the ocean channel. A fisherman is found who owns a ferry which the brothers hire in order to cross. Ushik makes conversation with the stranger and realizes the man is Felizian Artus, the hermit from The Blow. Toryn walks along the beach with the old man and discovers an important secret.
