Opeth & DevilDriver vs. Cradle Of Filth & DevilDriver
March 17, 2006.
Opeth, DevilDriver, and Dark Tranquillity at Cain’s Ballroom.
Now that is one evil lineup.
The guys start joking about what the crowd probably looked like.
Black concert shirts.
Camo cargo shorts.
Chain wallets.
And maybe a little black hair and white face paint.
Then comes the question.
How many songs did Opeth actually play?
Two and a half?
Three?
When your songs are that long, you do not need a 20-song setlist.
Then the conversation shifts to DevilDriver.
Max has worked with DevilDriver so many times he has practically lost count.
But here is what makes the story interesting.
Years later, DevilDriver played The Criterion with Cradle of Filth, and according to the guys, they could barely give tickets away.
They were surprised because that lineup should have brought a much bigger crowd.

Cradle of Filth and DevilDriver at The Criterion years later.
Two heavy lineups.
Two different eras.
And a reminder that even big names in metal do not always guarantee a packed room.
