🌟 Our heroes ride into the chaos of battle with Ran, Akira Kurosawa’s towering masterpiece of war, madness, family, and the terrible consequences of a life built on violence ⚔️🏯🔥🌄
This week’s episode is a very special Andrew pick: Ran has entered his Top 10 greatest films of all time! Together, our heroes dive into what makes Kurosawa one of the absolute masters of cinema, from his painterly compositions and breathtaking use of color to the astonishing scale, restraint, and visual authority of his filmmaking 🎨🎬🏔️✨
But beneath all that beauty is one of the darkest stories ever told. Our heroes explore the film’s King Lear-inspired tragedy, the cycle of violence passed from father to son, and a ruler forced to wander through the ruins of the very world he created. Is it karma? Is heaven watching? Has God abandoned humanity... or have we simply turned our backs on something greater? ☁️⚔️🙏🔥
So raise the banners, sound the drums, and get ready to light up the dark… one breathtaking frame at a time 🔦🏯⚔️🎨
