The Winking Lizard in the Montrose area of Copley is the kind of place that earns repeat visits without having to try very hard. It's been doing what it does long enough to get it right, and walking in feels less like discovering somewhere new and more like returning somewhere reliable. That's not a knock. In the wing world, reliable is underrated.
The sauce and rub selection here is genuinely worth your time. We're not talking a wall of Tabasco bottles and three house options — Winking Lizard has built out a wing menu deep enough to keep a regular busy for months without ordering the same thing twice. And if you're the kind of person who treats heat as a personal challenge, they have something in the back that will get your attention. Consider yourself warned and invited simultaneously.
TVs cover the walls, the craft beer and bourbon selection in the Lizardville store is the kind of thing you stumble into on the way to the bathroom and end up spending twenty minutes in, and the atmosphere does what a good sports bar should — it disappears. You stop noticing it because it's exactly right.
Eleven episodes in, this is a home field stop. Sometimes home field is exactly where you need to be.
