There's one kind of hip problem where waiting has a real cost. Every week you delay, you can lose something your body cannot grow back. Your cartilage has no blood supply, so once it's damaged, it does not repair itself the way muscle or bone does.
In this episode, I'm going to explain exactly which hip problems are truly time sensitive, why cartilage damage from hip impingement builds silently, and the specific question you should ask your surgeon before agreeing to more months of conservative care.

❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: Does cartilage damage from hip impingement heal on its own?
A: No. Cartilage has no blood supply, so once it is damaged from impingement, the damage does not reverse with rest, injections, or time.
Q: How do I know if my hip pain is urgent or safe to watch?
A: Confirmed structural impingement with a labral tear on imaging is the category where timing matters most. Muscle strains, tendon issues, bursitis, and referred back pain are usually safe to treat conservatively.
Q: What predicts a better outcome after hip preservation surgery?
A: Shorter symptom duration before surgery and preserved cartilage at the time of surgery are the two strongest predictors of a good result.
