Could a blockchain-enabled cooperative help cattle ranchers follow beef from birth to sale and share the value they create? This May 2024 proposal connects traceability with decentralized autonomous organizations, or DAOs. I consider how records of ownership, animal health, genetics, handling, and quality could move with the cattle instead of being lost between stages.
The model uses tokens and smart contracts to track contributions and distribute revenue, while giving buyers a clearer product history. I also examine the obstacles: delayed payment for early producers, technology adoption, regulatory differences, and consumer trust. This is a proposed cooperative structure, not a proven business result. The question is whether better information and coordination can help ranchers reach markets beyond commodity sales.
