Description

Should America pursue mass deportation, and what alternatives deserve a serious hearing? In this November 2024 episode, I compare four approaches: keeping the status quo, targeted enforcement with employer accountability, mass removal, and expanded legal protections. The discussion weighs due process, public trust, labor demand, security, and the practical burden on immigration courts and communities.

Edmund Burke’s respect for inherited obligations provides a starting point for asking how a nation should honor its agreements while enforcing its laws. I favor concentrating resources on serious threats, strengthening legal processes, and addressing employers’ demand for undocumented labor alongside lawful migration. None of the options is cost-free. The question is which approach can be both workable and faithful to the responsibilities we have accepted.
