It is a time of political and religious upheaval. Things are changing fast and not getting better. People are struggling. There is poverty, hatred, war and strife. I'm not actually talking about our time and culture right now! What I'm describing is the time of the Kings in the Old Testament. As we continue our sermon series on the whole BIble called "Focal Point," we are looking at the dramatic time in the Old Testament when Israel split into two kingdoms and a series of kings ruled over God's divided people. This sermon is called "Cracking Foundations" and we see struggles and conflicts that we can still relate to today. We also see how God, in His mercy and grace, continued to reach out to his people through the prophets to call them to repentance. Through all of this, we learn more about what it means to trust God in times of upheaval and especially what it means to focus on Christ as our ultimate king.
