Description

As we continue in our sermon series on the Gospel of Matthew, called "The King Has Come", we  look at Matthew 20:17-28 in a sermon called "The Way of the Cross".  In this passage, Jesus and his disciples, along with a large crowd, are on their way to Jerusalem.  Jesus tells his disciples that he is going to be crucified in Jerusalem and then, on the third day, will be raised to life.  Matthew then tells us that two of the disciples decided this is a good time to ask (through their mom!) if they can have places of honor in Christ's kingdom.  Jesus' reply shows us that importance and status in his kingdom is very different from the way our world works.  He emphasizes that he came to serve, rather than to be served, and that he came to "give his life as a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:28).  We are spending a lot of time on this last verse to see what it means that Christ served us by giving his life for us and what this means for our lives as we follow his example in living our lives according to the "way of the cross."

Listening to sermons online can be a great way to keep up with a sermon series if you are unable to attend church but should never be a substitute for regular attendance of a gospel-centered and bible teaching church.
