Emotional Eating is a type of buffering. Buffering is when you try to lessen or avoid your uncomfortable feelings and turn to something else to mask those feelings.
People buffer with food, alcohol, shopping, or even tuning out to t.v instead of dealing with your emotions. Buffering has unwanted consequences, even though it might *instantly* make you feel better in the moment. You are still not dealing with the situation and your emotional health.
Emotional eating will lead to weight gain, poor physical and mental health, increases your risk of diseases and not to mention the “problem” is still there, you haven’t dealt with anything. When people emotionally eat, they turn to highly palatable foods, such as sugary, salty or high fat foods, instead of whole, plant-based foods.
