I hear a lot of women say they want help "managing their stress" or "managing their overwhelm" and what I believe they mean is managing their thoughts.
Stress/overwhelm/anxiety/etc are emotions, and your thoughts (many are unconscious) are creating your emotions.
When you are learning to be more deliberate with your thoughts, it's helpful to just tune into HOW you are feeling, and when you notice negative emotion, check in with what thoughts are running in your mind, then choose where you want to place your focus intentionally.
