We talk about a couple of big issues with the Kentucky unemployment system this week on the Access Louisville podcast.
First, we discuss this week's news that the system has been temporarily shut down by the state following what Gov. Andy Beshear called a sophisticated cyber attack and an organized fraud effort. The shutdown was necessary in order to keep cyber criminals from taking money that would have otherwise gone to Kentuckians using the program. The system is expected to be back up within days. More details on the shutdown here.
We also talk about the problem of unemployment fraud (where a fraudster tries to take out unemployment insurance in your name) — a rampant issue during the pandemic, local accounting firms tell us.
Lastly we talk about the Courier-Journal selling it's building in Downtown Louisville and some of the rundown newsrooms that Business Firsters have worked in over the years.
