Pride left unchecked, can lead to regrettable decisions. It might not be immediate, but over time, the progression is almost predictable. If we don't douse pride with humility and reconciliation, it's fueled with bitterness, jealousy and envy.
These three conditions burn long and hot, becoming an internal inferno called malice. At that point, logic is completely replaced with emotion. If circumstance and self-justification are made available, malice has the potential to spark violence.
This week, as we continue our journey with the prophet Obadiah, we'll see how pride settled deep in the hearts of the Edomites, leading them to deplorable acts of violence. And we'll discover how pride deceives us into justifying destructive and shameful behaviours.
