Is gaining attention marketing? Are you, in trying to create viral content actually marketing?
Sometimes.
The intentions drive the answer – what does that mean?
Marketing yourself, your brand, products/services means that the attention is a means to an end – you want people to pay attention because you believe that what you’re telling them leads to them wanting something you have to offer them – goods and services
You produce something other than content.
Very important to understand – marketing for the sake of creating an audience to leverage for things you want or to get in front of things you want to notice you isn’t really marketing.
It can be if you’re goal is to create strategic partnerships, but what I see mostly is “hey look at me” and every post needs to have x number of clicks and interactions for the sake of the click or interaction, but there’s noting being pointed to – there’s no sell, really – just “look what I did”
