There are barriers to entry in Cosplay

Yes, Cosplay is for everyone, but Cosplay is also expensive for everyone

The first few can be scary, discouraging, and you may not think much of them yourself (the more you do it, the better it gets – different topic, we’ll cover later).

There is already a lot going on, and some groups are not as inviting as others.  There’s a lot of vetting, there are many competitive Cosplayers and suddenly followers are a thing to think about – if you’re new, you may not have many (or care).

Break in by remembering why you wanted to do this in the first place – you wanted the fun and fandom, you wanted to go see a celebrity or artist, or creative.

And then figure out what else you wanted to do with the investment of your time and resources – is it just for fun, or is there more you want to contribute – make that your sticking point.

Failure is ok – it’s learning; being nice is also helpful!
