Cos PAY which comes up a lot – today we’re talking about costume design costs.
Supporting makers – commissions can be anywhere from 100s to 1000s of $$!
Every pieces can be separate – a Cosplay can cost thousands to put together (and then you wear it to a Con…which can ruin it in so many ways)
Having backups in a good idea – your Con props and your “good” props that you use in photoshoots.
Even being able to make the costume can save, but then you have equipment costs and a lot of time in (however it is a hobby – so time all-in isn’t so terrible)
How do you lower costs besides being able to create costumes yourself?
As much as you want to go right after the commission pieces – try your closet first.
Sharing can also lead to less expense – this happens backstage too – some pieces are borrowed when you have a budget backstage – and parts of costumes or even full pieces are sometimes shared between players – exchange and borrowing is fine among friends
And, finally - Really really really (really?) VET your commissions and get your money’s worth out of the parts that aren’t being made.
