Are you streaming? Do you do a lot of live shows? Do you have a Podcast like me, but may prefer to not show the world your living room, spare room, or dining room table?
Let’s talk about set ups.
For my cast, I really just wanted a good computer for editing where it would be easy to read off the screen while either streaming or on a call for the Podcast. For that, I don’t need much for a backdrop. Eventually the art will rotate and a few things will change, but it’s all I need.
You could accomplish the same by hanging a sheet or a drop cloth. Green screens works the best if you’re editing a lot before your show goes out. Just don’t wear anything green.
I generally say spend your money in places where you’re going to get a longer term return – so lights, backdrops and other hardware that isn’t going to change or go anywhere for a while – how many pop filters do you need?
Just one and it will last a long time – good investment. I’ve had a lot of my set pieces for a while and besides the computer itself, not too expensive for as long as I’ve had everything.
You can create a full set – I’ve seen other casts go this route – it’s really up to you and what you want to convey to your audience. It will change over time and as you have new ideas about what you want everything to look like
Again – it’s ok to start small and simple. If you want the backdrop to be your couch – it’s your couch. It’s where you’re comfortable and it’s how you’re reaching your audience.
