The expectations for the Cosplayer have changed dramatically in the last few years. It's ultra-competitive, it's all about gaining more and more followers, attending every single convention that comes up, and every single weekend of your life is supposed to be working on costumes, coming up with more and more creative ideas and outdoing yourself. Always raising the bar as the bar of expectations gets raised by the masses, social media, and other Cosplayers.
Let's take a step back, especially if you're new to this. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing, and how many costumes they brought with them for the event. Don't worry about how 'screen accurate' you are right now, or how closely you resemble your favorite actor or actress.
It's about having fun and learning. This is where we all start - at zero - learning as we go.
Have a Happy Halloween this week and remember - this is about having fun, not impressing everyone and gaining their attention. That is a long game, and takes time, patience and the skills that come along with that. Just enjoy the process!
