Making money with Cosplay is not easy. Many see it as a hobby, and at it’s core, it is heavy on costume and graphic design. So if you just want to have fun with it, that’s completely fine. Many of us do.
But for those of us who do want to monetize, what’s getting in our way of really making something out of it? Let’s look at 5 reasons why we do not focus on monetization and instead try to gain attention on platforms that don’t really offer us much incentive to continue to product content at scale.
We often don’t think we’re good enough.
Gatekeeping (Cosplay is 'gatekeepy')
We don’t understand the marketing involved with the platforms that we place content on
Time – we have jobs and other things to do (students, parents, etc.)
A good amount of “what” and “how” but no “why”
