Anchor Scripture: HEBREWS 6:1-8INTRODUCTION-In this passage, the writer of the book of Hebrews tried to separate the boys from the men and the immature from the matured.He was trying to separate the elementary teaching from the teachings that the matured receive.You are a product of what you feed on, If you feed on milk, your strength will be limited but if you feed on meat your strength will increase.In the Church of God today, there are so many baby Christians, there are maturing Christians and also the matured Christians. THE COURSE OUTLINE OF ELEMENTRY TEACHINGS1.Repentance- Though some have been in Church for so long but they still need to be preached to like they have never heard the message about salvation. This is because their behaviour sometimes shows that sin is nothing to them. It does not matter how long you have been in Church or the number of discipleship programmes you have taken, there are some things you should not be found doing. But if you continue in this sin, it shows you are still a baby Christian. Teaching on repentance is for people living in sin and worldliness. QUESTION- What are the acts that lead to death? – Sin. The Bible says “the wages of sin is death.” Romans 6:23 Spiritual death often precedes physical death. 2.Faiths in God- Teaching about faith in God, believing God for miracles, trusting in Him for our needs are elementary teachings. A new couple will try to win the trust of one another in their early years of marriage. But if after 10 years they are still dealing with the issue of trust then they are babes in marriage. So also is our walk with the Lord; we must move on to the point where our faith and trust in God has grown and we have no alternative to God. 3.Cleansing Rite- The doctrine of holiness and sanctification. The books of Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy are about the cleansing rites the children of Israel had to observe. In the New Testament, it is the teaching on holiness and sanctification. Some of us are still struggling with this. 4.The Laying on of Hands- Empowerment and consecration which are the things that many Christians are being carried away by. Some ministers go to any length to get power because that is what elementary Christians look for. 5.The resurrection of the dead- How, why, where are we going to spend our eternity. The question is have you settled your account with God and pass these courses. 6.Eternal Judgment- Babes in Christ still need to be convinced and taught about this when they are supposed to have grown into maturity and are familiar with these teachings. We need to reach them about Hebrews 9:27- “It is appointed unto man once to die and after death judgment. Revelation 20:12-14 says “Books will be opened...THE MATURE CHRISTIAN- verses 4-51.The enlightened- John 8:32-36- Those who have been set free from sin. (Spiritual maturity has nothing to do with age). They are those who have spiritual convictions; spiritual understanding and functional knowledge of the things of God. READ HEBREWS 5:11-14 note verse 14b “who by constant USE” not constant hearing. The word of God informs their decisions, interactions and everything they do. -May be a discipleship student, preacher etc and not use the word of God constantly.-We must know that we shall be judged by the word.-The enlightened are those who know what they believe, why they are in the church and in the denomination. -It is lack of spiritual enlightenment that some people become politicians in the church.-That is why many do acts of favouritism and eye service in the church. -The enlightened have been convicted about their sins. No one needs to tell them what to do and what not to do. -To some the church is a social club, a place where their needs are met. 2.They have
